Description

Vetoryl from DVM Resources is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to treat Cushing's Disease in dogs. It works by controlling the adrenal gland's excess production of cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is produced by the body in response to stress.


What is Cushing's Disease? 
According to the Vetoryl website, Cushing's is one of the most commonly diagnosed canine endocrine disorders. It is typically seen in older dogs and can either be spontaneous or iatrogenic.

Features:
  • Blocks the excessive production of cortisol by reversibly inhibiting the action of the enzyme 3-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 
  • Needs to be administered only once daily with food
  • Food has been shown to significantly increase the rate of absorption

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions:
  • Administer 1x daily with food
  • Starting dosage is between 1.0mg to 3.0mg per pound of bodyweight
  • When calculating the dosage, it is recommended to round down to the nearest available dose

Prescriptions are non-refundable. Prescriptions are refillable if indicated by your vet, for up to one year from the original date. At the end of one year, prescriptions must be updated. Written prescriptions must include the veterinarian's license number, telephone number, and address. Federal law restricts the use of Rx drugs to use by, or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
